The Grand Slams of Quidditch

Although the Quidditch Pro tour extends to well over 60 tournaments over 11 months - more than one per week, with multiple tournaments sometimes running at the same time - the six biggest tournaments in Quidditch, known as the Grand Slams, stand out in prize money and respect. Almost all the clubs playing in the international league turn up to these six Opens.

Given that the VIP boxes at these Opens are often filled with the leading lights of wizarding society and high officials of the Ministries of Magic, politics usually grinds to a halt during the 'Grand Slam weeks'. In fact, with so much wizard attention on each Grand Slam, even amateur leagues in other countries tend to wind down during these six weeks in the year. Of course, as the Grand Slams get bigger, and move to two week, 64 team formats, this universal respect for each 'hallowed' week may be less forthcoming.
