Quidditch roundup in brief
For the week ending 05-09-2021
Caiman Wickitts
With only four of the top ten teams playing last week, the sole change was Worcester Walkyries overtaking Cumbriae Cumrae. In addition to those two teams, the Scarringley Hill Open attracted the Tornadoes and the Canons, both eager to grab points late in the season. That made for a good turnout for the tournament organisers, four top ten teams in a 16-team format open must be a pretty nice outcome for a small open that is lucky if it attracts one.
The additional representation made for some competitive matches, with the tournament being won by York (+3 places to 12). Final score York defeated Merivaen Middlers by 450-370. The Middlers were defending their home open, and looked to be comfortably ahead at 370-300 when Sinan, the Yorkie Seeker, caught the snitch.

With the excitement beginning to build towards the final Grand Slam of the season, Hallefried, all attention was on the north and east: the Omsk Open in Russia and the Trondheim Open in Norway. As usual both were well attended, each carrying equal points and prize money.
World Number 1, Essen Dragons, grabbed the 300 points on offer at Trondheim, soundly defeating last year's semi-finalists, Grenoble, 510-130 in 3 hours 15 minutes of domineering play that gave the French team few goal scoring chances. Essen's lead over secondplaced Thuringen remained unchanged however as the southern German team won the Omsk Open, defeating Kologne, 320-260, after losing the early lead, only for reserve Thuringen seeker, Wirren Ormstrein, to capture the snitch straight after a time-out.
The only mover in the top ten was Wien Wienstar, which did not play Omsk last year, and advanced one place in reaching the semi-finals this time. Lower in the rankings, Milan's victory over Moskva in the quarters at Omsk saw them move up one place to 15th. The victory will cheer Milan Makismo fans, who have seen second division team Genoa Grimaldan overtake the longtime Italian champions in recent weeks as the top team in Italy.
