Quidditch roundup in brief

For the week ending 29-08-2021

Caiman Wickitts

Highland Giants were threatening to overtake Chester Chatchums at the top of the table with their recent run of wins and fortune has favoured the Giants. Chester's dismal first round exit at the Mayfair Belbridge Open, one of the biggest titles they were defending this year, means they are now 400 points adrift, and they have more points to defend in the next three months. Hopefully they can fight back from this hugely disappointing setback, in the last quarter of the season. The Giants creditably made the semis to add to their points tally.

The tournament was won by Kargylle Family, who move up 3 spots after a truly remarkable performance for the mixed family team. Victory in the final came at just 1 h 35 m when Susan Kargylle caught the snitch for a 260-80 win against Taunton Fields, who move back into the top ten at the expense of the Orkney team, Orkintau.

With many of the big pro teams continuing to rest after the Berlin Open, in preparation for the sixth and final Grand Slam, Hallefried, in the last week of September, there was again little change in the top ten. Harry Potter's Essen Dragons forfeited 300 points by not defending their Bern Open title, but unlike Chester in the English league, their position is unaffected, as they have a 6,000 point buffer with World Number 2, Thuringen Therosaurs. The Swiss title was picked up by Ajjacio, who move up one place again, after they saw off a late challenge from Wien Wienstar in the final.

Leading 320-70 after 2 hours, the match seemed to be in the bag for Ajjacio, but a spirited run of play by Wienstar, saw the score move to 380-170 after another hour, and the snitch capture by Hevad Paringay, the Wienstar seeker, made the final score a close run contest: 380-320 to Ajjacio.
