'Taliban ban girls from secondary education in Afghanistan
The Taliban have effectively banned girls from secondary education in Afghanistan, by ordering high schools to re-open only for boys.
...
The edict makes Afghanistan the only country on earth to bar half its population from getting a secondary education.'

The ongoing tussle over the future direction of Afghanistan's social policies continues to be a topic of news in many parts of the world.
The Western powers - the Muggles - fought a 20 year war to try and unseat the Student movement, a revivalist wizarding militia that seeks a pure Islamic state. The failure of that war of neo-colonial intervention saw the Western Muggles leave after signing a humiliating treaty with the Students.
However the social policy of the new rulers in Kabul, ostensibly one of the reasons for the original invasion, as it was claimed to be undermining Muggle rights policies, continues to be a hot topic among the defeated but shameless, liberal Muggles.
The continual sniping by Western media commentators and politicians, including through supposedly neutral international bodies like the UN, brought a strong response yesterday from the government spokesman.
Said Abdul Salim, of the Ministry of Information, "We did not give in to Muggle military pressure for 20 years, though a hundred Muggle nations sent their best fighters here. We certainly don't intend now to give in to this ludicrous diplomatic pressure. What we spend tax on, is our business. And we see no reason to reopen every girls' school."
A Student analyst, Saeed Gotki, in Kabul explained the government stance, "Girls must learn home cooking skills, and preferably a handicraft too, before committing to secondary school. Otherwise they abandon traditional skills. That is the Students' position.
"Afghanistan, while having a famous food cuisine, especially in grilled meats made by men, lacks the home based skills of some other neighbouring regions like Kashmir and Balochistan. Men are often seen avoiding home, to eat at restaurants and cafes.
"The lack of skill among Afghan girls and women is the primary reason for social instability in Afghanistan, and their weak position in society. The policy of not reopening schools will encourage Afghan families to reset their priorities. If the girls are capable, and have mastered cooking skills, they can then go to school."
We asked if this condition should apply to boys too. Gotki laughed.
"Boys master a lot of skills by 11 or 12. Throwing, chasing, wrestling, horse riding, using arms, learning to hunt... all these are traditional skills, which a girl even when given a chance to ride a horse, often does not master. No, girls must learn some basic home skills before committing to purely mental education from books.
"We do not want the empty brained Mugglisation that has occurred in the West. Everyone must learn skills, and Afghan girls are very behind compared to girls in neighbouring regions. If they demonstrate that they can cope with the demands of utilising skill knowledge, then more girls' schools can reopen. This is the Afghan and Islamic traditional way."
